Overview
The MiniTecno BLCM range is a series of brushless DC wormgearmotors supplied by Motordrives Australia, pairing a compact die-cast aluminium worm gearbox with a low-voltage BL series brushless DC motor. Built under the “small but strong” MiniTecno brand (part of the Transtecno group), the BLCM range is designed for applications needing a high single-stage reduction ratio in a compact, low-voltage drive package.
The range is available in three gearbox frame sizes — CM026, CM030 and CM040 — paired with brushless motors rated from 0.22 Nm up to 2.1 Nm, reduced through worm ratios from 5:1 to 100:1. Motordrives Australia can help match the correct gearbox size, ratio and motor combination to your application’s torque, speed, voltage and self-locking requirements.
Construction And Design
Each BLCM wormgearmotor uses a die-cast aluminium gearbox housing for durability and effective heat dissipation, with permanent synthetic oil lubrication (viscosity grade 320) that allows installation in any mounting position without ongoing maintenance. Rated ambient temperature is 0°C to +40°C, in the absence of freezing or condensation.
The output shaft is a hollow bore as standard across all three frame sizes, suited to direct mounting onto a driven shaft. An extended input shaft (VS option), output shaft accessory kit (SZDZ) and torque reaction arm are available where a solid through-shaft or anti-rotation mounting is required. The gearbox is also available as a gearbox-only unit, with either a standard input flange (AS series) or a customised flange and coupling for pairing with a customer-supplied motor.
Motor And Gearbox Combinations
The BLCM range pairs the CM026, CM030 and CM040 worm gearboxes with the following BL series brushless DC motors:
- CM026 + BLS022.240: 0.22 Nm rated torque motor, 24V/36V, ratios 5:1 to 60:1
- CM030 + BLS043.240: 0.43 Nm rated torque motor, 24V/36V, ratios 5:1 to 100:1
- CM030 + BL070.480: 0.7 Nm rated torque motor, 48V, ratios 5:1 to 50:1
- CM040 + BLS043.240: 0.43 Nm rated torque motor, 24V/36V, ratios 5:1 to 100:1
- CM040 + BL070.480: 0.7 Nm rated torque motor, 48V, ratios 5:1 to 100:1
- CM040 + BL140.480: 1.4 Nm rated torque motor, 48V, ratios 5:1 to 100:1
- CM040 + BL210.480: 2.1 Nm rated torque motor, 48V, ratios 5:1 to 100:1
Worm wheel toothing data varies by ratio and gearbox size, with dynamic efficiency (Rd) ranging from around 90% at low ratios down to roughly 52-65% at the highest ratios, depending on frame size.
Key Features
- Low voltage 24/36/48 Vdc power supply suited to battery-powered and low-voltage control systems
- IP55-protected brushless DC motor as standard, with digital Hall sensor feedback
- Die-cast aluminium housings across all three frame sizes for durability
- Permanent synthetic oil lubrication suited to any mounting orientation
- Hollow output shaft standard, with accessories available for extended input shafts and torque reaction arms
- Self-locking (static and dynamic irreversibility) available at higher ratios, reducing or removing the need for a separate holding brake in some applications
- Compatible with the full Transtecno BLD controller range (BLD07-IT, BLD15, BLD60 Digital, BLDT60 Digital Plus) for speed, torque or position control
Reversibility And Irreversibility
Worm gear reduction ratios influence whether a BLCM gearmotor will back-drive under load when not powered. As a general guide based on dynamic efficiency (Rd) and static efficiency (Rs):
- Rd above 0.60: dynamic reversibility
- Rd between 0.50 and 0.60: uncertain dynamic reversibility
- Rd between 0.40 and 0.50: good dynamic irreversibility
- Rd below 0.40: dynamic irreversibility
- Rs above 0.55: static reversibility
- Rs between 0.50 and 0.55: uncertain static reversibility
- Rs below 0.50: static irreversibility
Applications requiring the gearmotor to hold position without back-driving under load should select a ratio with the appropriate level of irreversibility, and confirm the requirement with Motordrives Australia before finalising selection.
Common Applications
- Compact automation and positioning equipment requiring high single-stage reduction
- Battery-powered and mobile equipment requiring low-voltage operation
- Applications benefiting from self-locking (irreversible) worm reduction
- Equipment using a hollow output shaft for direct shaft mounting
- Medical, laboratory and instrumentation equipment with tight space constraints
Selection Considerations
Selecting the right BLCM gearmotor starts with the required output torque, speed and ratio, which determines the gearbox frame size (CM026, CM030 or CM040) and motor pairing. Duty cycle should be checked against the published service factor (sf) values for each ratio — applications approaching or exceeding sf 1.0 should be confirmed with Motordrives Australia before specifying.
Permitted radial output loads vary by gearbox size and output speed and should be checked against the published radial load tables, particularly for overhung loads such as pulleys or sprockets mounted directly to the output shaft. Where the application requires the gearmotor to hold load without back-driving, the ratio’s dynamic and static efficiency should be checked against the reversibility guidance above.
For applications requiring closed-loop speed, torque or position control, the BLCM motor can be paired with the appropriate Transtecno BLD series controller based on the motor’s current and voltage rating.
