Overview
The MiniTecno BL range is a series of brushless DC motors supplied by Motordrives Australia, available across five frame sizes covering torque ratings from 0.22 Nm to 2.1 Nm. Built under the “small but strong” MiniTecno brand (part of the Transtecno group), BL motors are supplied with an external driver and are the motor used across the full MiniTecno BLDC gearmotor range — including the BLP planetary, BLCM wormgearmotor and BLFT helical parallel gearmotor families.
Compared to traditional brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors offer a longer service life, higher efficiency, electronic commutation via digital sensors, a wide speed regulation range, and maintenance-free operation. BL motors are also a cost-effective option because they use built-in Hall sensors for feedback rather than a separate encoder or resolver, while still delivering the compact size and low rotor inertia needed for high dynamic performance.
Why Brushless DC Over Brushed DC
- Longer life: no brushes or commutator to wear out
- Higher efficiency: electronic commutation reduces losses compared to brushed designs
- Digital feedback: built-in Hall sensors enable closed-loop speed and torque control via an external driver
- Wide speed range: suited to applications needing variable speed control across a broad range
- Maintenance-free: no brush replacement or commutator servicing required
- Low-voltage safety: 24/36/48 Vdc 3-phase windings offer a safer option where an operator may be in direct contact with the motor
Model Range
- BLS022.240: 0.22 Nm rated torque, 24V/36V, delta winding, up to 4000 rpm rated speed
- BLS043.240: 0.43 Nm rated torque, 24V/36V, delta winding, up to 4000 rpm rated speed
- BL070.240 / BL070.24B: 0.7 Nm rated torque, 24V, star winding; the “B” variant includes an integrated holding brake
- BL070.480 / BL070.48B: 0.7 Nm rated torque, 48V, star winding; the “B” variant includes an integrated holding brake
- BL140.480: 1.4 Nm rated torque, 48V, star winding
- BL210.480 / BL210.48E: 2.1 Nm rated torque, 48V, star winding; the “E” variant is brake-compatible
All models carry IP55 protection as standard and are built with Class B insulation, suited to a 90°C temperature rise at 40°C ambient.
Optional Brake
A holding brake is available on the BL070 and BL210 frame sizes (BL070.24B, BL070.48B, BL210.48E), rated at 4.5 Nm holding torque at 48V, 3000 rpm and IP20 protection. A hand-release lever version (BRL suffix) is also available, allowing the brake to be manually released without power — useful for maintenance or manual positioning of the driven load.
Key Features
- IP55 protection across the entire BL range, suited to dusty or washdown-prone environments
- Built-in Hall sensor feedback (120 degree electrical angle) for closed-loop control without a separate encoder
- Defined maximum radial and axial shaft load ratings per frame size, important when coupling to belts, pulleys or direct-mounted loads
- Dielectric strength rated at 500 Vdc for 1 minute, with minimum insulation resistance of 100MΩ
- Designed to pair directly with the Transtecno BLD series of controllers (BLD07-IT, BLD15, BLD60 Digital, BLDT60 Digital Plus) for speed, torque or position control
Common Applications
- Standalone direct-drive applications needing a compact, low-voltage brushless motor
- Motor component for MiniTecno BLP, BLCM and BLFT brushless gearmotor builds
- Battery-powered and mobile equipment requiring low-voltage 3-phase brushless drive
- Equipment where an operator may contact the motor, benefiting from low-voltage winding safety
- Applications needing an integrated holding brake, with or without manual release
Selection Considerations
Selecting the right BL motor starts with the required torque and speed for the application, along with the supply voltage available (24V, 36V or 48V depending on model). Where the motor is coupling directly to a load, the maximum permitted radial and axial shaft forces for the selected frame size should be checked, particularly for belt or pulley-driven applications.
Where the application needs the motor to hold position without drift when de-energised, the optional brake variants (BL070.24B, BL070.48B, BL210.48E) should be considered, with the BRL hand-release option specified if manual release access is required.
All BL motors require an external driver for operation — Motordrives Australia can help match the correct Transtecno BLD controller to your selected motor’s voltage and current rating.
