Overview

The KB Electronics KBCC chassis control utilises the KBMM modular control to provide a low-cost, reliable, variable speed SCR drive for PM and shunt wound DC motors through 3 HP. The range covers two voltage variants — the KBCC-125 on 115 VAC and the KBCC-225 on 230 VAC — each available in a standard unidirectional model or a reversing model with the “R” suffix.

Models with the “R” suffix contain the KB APRM, which provides anti-plug “instant” reverse and solid state dynamic braking. All models are equipped with KB’s exclusive Plug-in Horsepower Resistor, which eliminates the need to recalibrate IR Comp and Current Limit when the control is used on motors of different horsepower.

Key Features

The KBCC controls are built on a rugged aluminium heatsink and contain AC line and armature fusing, a 5K ohm remote potentiometer, and a barrier terminal block. In lieu of the potentiometer, the control can be operated in a voltage following mode by supplying an isolated analog signal (0-9 VDC) to input terminals P2 (+) and F-. Adjustment trimpots are provided for Min, Max, IR Comp, CL, Accel and Decel.

All models offer tachometer or armature feedback, MOV transient protection, a CL LED indicator, and Inhibit functionality which allows electronic switching of the armature voltage, alongside Auto Inhibit which provides rapid, safe switching of the AC line. The control incorporates a patented overload circuit for added protection.

Special Functions On R-Suffix Models

KBCC-R models add Forward-Brake-Reverse operation, anti-plug instant reverse, Run-Brake-Jog functionality, an auxiliary trimpot for speed adjustment, and rapid cycling capability. These reversing models are rated for up to 30 starts, stops or reversals per minute based on a one second brake time — for increased cycling rates or longer brake times, the factory should be contacted directly.

Accessories

As with other KB DC motor controls, the armature fuse and Plug-in Horsepower Resistor are supplied separately and must be matched to the connected motor’s horsepower and armature voltage range. CE compliance additionally requires the KBRF-200A RFI filter.

Common Applications

The KBCC is used across a wide range of industrial applications, including transfer pumps, door openers, feeders, indexers, tapping machines, conveyors, robotics, screen presses and exercise equipment, wherever a chassis mount DC motor speed control is required.

Selection Considerations

Selecting the correct KBCC model starts with confirming the available AC supply voltage — 115 VAC for the KBCC-125 range or 230 VAC for the KBCC-225 range. The next consideration is whether the application requires reversing, instant anti-plug reverse or dynamic braking, in which case the “R” suffix model should be specified. The correct Plug-in Horsepower Resistor must then be selected based on the motor’s horsepower and armature voltage range.

Motordrives Australia can help confirm the right KBCC model, Plug-in Horsepower Resistor and any required accessories based on your motor’s horsepower, voltage and reversing requirements.
