Overview
The Transtecno POK worm gearmotor is a purpose built drive solution designed specifically for livestock and poultry feeding lines. Unlike general industrial worm gearmotors adapted for farm use, the POK series has been engineered from the ground up for the demands of chain feeder systems, screw conveyors and other automated feeding equipment found in modern poultry sheds and piggeries.
Available in two gearbox sizes, the POK150 and POK220, the range covers nominal output torques from 181 Nm up to 422 Nm and gear ratios from 10:1 through to 60:1. This gives Australian farmers, shed builders and equipment integrators the flexibility to match the right unit to the specific speed and torque requirements of their feeding system.
The POK series is part of the Transtecno PoultryTecno product line, a dedicated gearmotor range developed in collaboration with leaders in the poultry and livestock farming sector. Motordrives Australia supplies the full range with local technical support.
Key Features
The POK gearmotor stands apart through a combination of robust construction and practical design choices that make it well suited to continuous duty in agricultural environments.
The aluminium die cast housing keeps overall weight down while providing a strong, corrosion resistant enclosure. Both the output flange and output shaft are integral to the housing rather than bolted on. This means loads are transferred directly through the casing, giving the unit greater strength under the radial and axial forces common in feeding line applications.
Output flanges and shafts are fully customisable. Whether you are fitting the gearmotor to an existing chain feeder setup, replacing an older unit, or designing a new installation, the shaft and flange dimensions can be configured to match your requirements. A wide selection of standard configurations is available, with bespoke options on request.
Every POK gearmotor is supplied pre filled with permanent synthetic oil at viscosity grade 320. This long life lubrication requires no scheduled oil changes or top ups, reducing ongoing maintenance and keeping operating costs low across the life of the unit.
Common Applications
POK worm gearmotors are found across a range of farm automation tasks in Australia and New Zealand, but they are most commonly specified for chain feeder systems in poultry and pig farming operations. The universal fixing design allows the gearmotor to be mounted in virtually any orientation, making it straightforward to integrate with different feeder brands and shed layouts.
Typical applications include driving chain conveyors that distribute feed throughout poultry sheds, powering screw auger systems for bulk feed transport, raising and lowering feeding troughs for cleaning and maintenance access, and providing reliable drive for other automated farm equipment where a compact worm gearmotor with high radial load capacity is required.
The POK150 is generally suited to lighter duty feeding lines, while the POK220 handles higher loads with maximum permissible radial loads of up to 9300 N and nominal output torques reaching 422 Nm.
Selection Considerations
Choosing between the POK150 and POK220 comes down to the torque, speed and load requirements of your specific application.
Start by identifying the output speed your feeding system needs. At 50 Hz with a 4 pole motor input speed of 1400 min^-1, the POK range delivers output speeds from 23 min^-1 at a 60:1 ratio up to 140 min^-1 at a 10:1 ratio. For 60 Hz supply, output speeds extend from 29 min^-1 to 175 min^-1.
Next, consider the torque demand. The POK150 provides nominal output torques from 181 Nm to 241 Nm depending on the selected ratio, while the POK220 extends that range from 303 Nm to 422 Nm. If your application involves high radial loading on the output shaft, the POK220 offers significantly higher radial load capacity at 9300 N versus 6700 N for the POK150.
Motor sizing is equally important. The POK series accepts standard IEC frame motors from 71 to 112 in both B5 and B14 mounting configurations, covering input powers from 0.55 kW through to 4 kW. Metal shaft sleeves are included where required to adapt smaller motor shafts to the gearbox input bore.
If you are replacing an existing unit, having the current gearmotor model number, ratio, motor power and output shaft dimensions on hand will help our team recommend the correct POK configuration.
